Darsi Ferrer Ends Hunger Strike

The dissident Cuban doctor Darsi Ferrer, detained without trial since July 2009 in a prison in Havana, ended his hunger strike, which he had maintained for three weeks, after the authorities acceded to his demands, said a spokesperson for his family.

Ferrer declared a hunger strike ion March 20, because he has been detained since July 21, 2009 without the start of any judicial process and because they did not treat an oral infection.

He was detained accused of acquiring, illegally, two sacks of cement and other materials to repair his house, and is known for having organized various marches in the central park in Havana on the World Day of Human Rights, December 10.
