This Thursday, April 8, 2010, the first Cuban Blogger Academy course ended in the afternoon in Havana. More than 20 bloggers participated in the first course of the Academy, learning new methods and ways to continue informing people inside and outside the Island via the Internet. Among the subject covered were interactive journalism, ethis and law, Cuban culture, Blogspot, Word Press and photography.

One of the professors and organizors of the course, the well-known Cuban blogger, Yoani Sánchez, said that the graduationwould be celebrated in Rome and in Havana. “In Rome they are presenting the newest issue of the Italian edition of Wired magazinge, dedicated to the Cuban alternative blogosphere.”

Yoani Sánchez started her academy for Cuban bloggers with a comprehensive study plan covering many subjects over three months in her house with 28 people in attendance in the first class.

The initial workshops were given by the journalist Reinaldo Escobar, the attorney Wilfredo Ballín, the phtographer Claudio Madan, and Yoani Sánchez.

Sánchez is internationally known for her blog Generation Y, which has been published since April 2007, but unable to see it from her country, she defines herself as “a blind blogger.”

Time magazine has inclued her in their list of the 100 most influential people of 2008, and she received, the same year, the Ortega y Gassett Journalism Award. Her blog was included among the 25 most influential in the world in 2009.
